Nuwaraeliya Day Tour

Today you will drive through the hill country to Nuwara Eliya

En route you will stop at a tea factory and tea plantation where you will have the opportunity to learn more about the tea making process and the different grades of tea.

Located in the heart of Sri Lanka’s tea country at an elevation of 1900m, Nuwara Eliya was a favored retreat of the British in the 19th Century thanks to its cool climate. With an abundance of red and green roofed plantation bungalows, English country style homes, a fine 18 hole golf course and a racecourse, the town still has a decidedly British feel. The surrounding mountain slopes and valleys are carpeted with lush green tea plantations, interspersed with gushing streams and tumbling waterfalls.

Take a walk around the town center, passing the Victorian post office, the old Hill Club and golf course before a stop at Holy Trinity Church, a quaint building constructed by the British in the mid 19th Century.

• Old Post Office

One of the most iconic buildings in Sri Lanka. It is located in the center of Nuwara-Eliya, and known as one of the oldest post offices in Sri Lanka. Its Tudor Style, Two-Storey Red Building out layer was one of the main reasons it is unique in its very own way.

• Gregory Lake

Constructed during the period of British Governor Sir William Gregory, the Gregory Reservoir stands in the heart of the tea country, hill city of Sri Lanka, ready to welcome any and all guests willing to bask in the beauty of the chilly streets of Nuwara Eliya.

• Victoria Park

Originally based as a testing ground for the Hakgala Botanical Gardens and was formally named to commemorate Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee, perfect for a cool and calm walk through the greenery that is Nuwara Eliya.
